Now, I’m not saying that children in school don’t also make perfectly browned pancakes for their family. But children at home do have a lot more time to explore their own interests, and if that includes making pancakes, all the better.
My two oldest boys love to cook and bake. Their usual go-to recipes are things like cookies, cake, pancakes, and bread. L recently got into pizza dough and I’ve used his skills for making supper—it was glorious!
I’m not going to outline the many STEAM (science/tech/engineering/art/math) applications that come from cooking and baking. We’re going to call that your homework: in 500 words or less, please outline all the educational benefits of cooking. Due whenever. We’ll see how much you’ve picked up. Meanwhile, I’ll just be over here enjoying G’s pancakes.
